Hosted by Cedar Lane UU and SURJ MoCo (Showing Up for Racial Justice, Montgomery County)
This training is for both new and previous attendees. For those who came to the first training, please feel free to attend to get some more practice in!
May Day (May 1st) is coming up, and there are some joint events for Beyond the Moment. This includes a march cosponsored by one of SURJ MoCo's people of color-led accountability partners CASA. CASA has asked us to recruit people to come march with them.
As allies, SURJ folks should really be trained in how to intervene when they see someone being targeted (whether at the march or just out in public). Being trained and knowing how to appropriately respond is part of being accountable to people and communities of color. This will be true for May Day, but also for any other actions we take for our accountability partners.
This training goes through Active Bystander Intervention and nonviolence. The training is heavy on practice.
Please let organizers know in the RSVP form if you need a ride to/from a metro or within town, or if you need any other accessibility options. Kids are very much welcome to attend.
