On Wednesday, April 5, the Kennedy Political Union will welcome Lonnie Lynn, better known by his stage name "Common," to American University. The event will be held in Bender Arena with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. and the event starting at 8 p.m. The event is is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, WVAU, AU Alumni Association, Office of Campus Life, 94Forever, Second District Records, the AU Black Student Alliance, and AU Men of Empowerment and Excellence (ME2).

In addition to creating Grammy nominated music with artists like John Legend and Kanye West, acting in multiple movies and TV series, Common works to educate America’s youth through music and literature, earning him the title, “King of Conscious Hip-Hop.” He has released nine albums, most recently “Black America Again.” In 2007, Common launched the Common Ground Foundation which is an organization dedicated to the empowerment and development of America's urban youth. He has combined hip hop with literature by releasing three children's books.
