Sojourner Truth Lecture: An Evening with Janet Mock

"Redefining Black Womanhood"

The annual Sojourner Truth lecture is hosted by Women and Gender Studies and African/African American Studies at George Mason University. The annual lecture is given by a Black woman whose exemplifies a commitment to the principles embodied by Sojourner Truth through scholarship, the arts, politics, or activism. This year the Sojourner Truth Lecture will be given by Janet Mock.

Janet Mock, writer of Redefining Realness, TV host, and trans advocate will speak on black womanhood and her experiences. She considers herself a Beyoncé scholar, but is widely known as a sought-after speaker and prominent advocate for trans womens’ rights. She hosts the weekly culture show "So POPular!" on M“NBC’s “hift network and serves as Contributing Editor for Marie Claire.
